Construction works, equipment and quality control

Equipment

Stabilization works on the construction site are carried out using the same equipment as for cement stabilization.

In contrast to stabilization with cement or road binder, the compressive strength is not tested.
Quality control tests are performed according to separate requirements indicated in the relevant technical specification.

The load bearing test is usually performed after 72 hours and this has a very significant impact on the increase in the speed of construction works. For final acceptance, the commonly used method of measuring the secondary deformation modulus E2 (VSS) is used.

Quality control

After stabilization with a hydrophobic additives, important parameters are determined:
– soaking coefficient S
– resistance to capillary water absorption coefficient R
– elastic modulus (Young’s modulus) E

Material tests typical for hydraulic binder stabilization (eg compressive strength) may be performed, however they are not required for hydrophobic stabilization. The evaluation of the values obtained from the tests must take into account that these are two different soil stabilization types, for which individual results of the same tests may have different meanings for the quality.
